How Myndlift Neurofeedback Can Improve Your Mental Health

If you’re struggling with mental health issues, you might be interested in exploring neurofeedback therapy. Neurofeedback is a type of therapy that uses electrical signals to help train your brain to function more effectively. Myndlift is an FDA-cleared neurofeedback device that can be used at home to help improve your mental health. At PsyFi TMS, we are proud to offer this cutting-edge therapy to our patients.

Myndlift is a health technology company offering digital mental health using brain-sensing technology and therapist-guided programs. Utilizing EEG technology, the Myndlift platform and hardware allow users access to guided neurofeedback training and digital mental health resources wherever they are. Myndlift works with hundreds of clinics worldwide, and has thousands of users training via the app, available on the App Store and Google Play,” according to a Myndlift press release statement.

Myndlift is a wearable device that uses EEG to detect and record your brain activity. The device is connected to a computer or mobile app, which provides feedback to help you learn to self-regulate your brain activity. Neurofeedback has been shown to be effective for a variety of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and PTSD.

But why does it work? The rationale for neurofeedback is that by providing feedback about brain activity, the brain can learn to self-regulate. It is similar to how a person can learn to control their heart rate or blood pressure. Over time, with practice, the brain can learn to regulate itself more effectively. For example, if you are struggling with anxiety, the goal of neurofeedback would be to help you learn to quiet the anxious thoughts that are running through your head. This would be done by providing feedback about your brain activity in real-time, so that you can learn to change it.

For example, according to the Myndlift, “When there is an imbalance in brain wave activity, such as increased left frontal alpha (8-12 Hz), suggesting less activation and inability to regulate the subcortical regions that underlie depression, a physiological predisposition for depression occurs. According to research, two neurofeedback protocols (alpha asymmetry protocol and enhancing beta and inhibiting theta or alpha at C3) can modify this suboptimal brain state.”

There are several different use cases for neurofeedback. At PsyFi TMS, we often use it as an adjunctive treatment for our patients with depression. Neurofeedback can be used to augment other forms of therapy, such as medication or talk therapy. It can also be used as a stand-alone treatment for those who are interested in exploring it.
